Our establishment provides care for all insured persons in Switzerland. As a listed hospital, accessible to all patients regardless of their insurance coverage, the clinic provides public service mandates and is involved in a quality and safety improvement process.

Inpatient stay


Here you will find all the information you need to know before your stay at Clinique Générale.

Before your arrival

  • Medical consultation: the doctor contacts our admissions department to schedule your operation.
  • Anaesthesia consultation: you will be called by Anesthesia, our anaesthesia department, for a pre-operative consultation on site or by telephone by an anaesthetist.
  • Once the hospitalization is scheduled, a request for confirmation of coverage is sent to your insurance company for approval.
  • A confirmation of admission is sent to you specifying the terms of entry into the clinic.

Admission to the clinic

If all the necessary steps have been taken before your arrival, all you have to do is go to the clinic's reception desk at the time indicated.
Please bring the following with you

  • Your identity card
  • Your health insurance card (also for accidents)
  • Your patient admission questionnaire
  • Your blood group card to be handed to the nursing staff
  • Your anaesthesia consent form
  • Your personal medication in its original packaging
  • Your laboratory tests
  • Your X-rays

Before the operation

We would like to draw your attention to the recommendations made by the anaesthetists regarding the rules to follow from the day before the operation: from midnight onwards, you must stop eating. However, you are allowed to drink clear liquids (still water, tea or black coffee) until you leave home.

After the operation

Our teams will provide you with excellent care. We will provide you with coordinated and multidisciplinary care, thanks to the professionalism and friendliness of our teams, in collaboration with our partners.

For your comfort, we suggest that you bring the following items:

  • Toiletries
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Nightdress, pyjamas, shorts
  • Track suits and underwear
  • Easy-to-fit shoes (orthopaedic procedures)

The arrangements for your departure will be determined in consultation with your doctor.

Outpatient surgery

Here you will find all the information you need to know before your outpatient surgery at the Clinique Générale.

The day before the operation

To find out what time you are due to arrive at the Clinique Générale, please call the admissions office between 13:30 and 16:00.

If, in the week before your operation, a change in your state of health (cold, sore throat, cough, fever, etc.) occurs, you must contact the clinic.

Follow carefully the recommendations given by the anaesthetists of Anesthesia SA:

  • Fasting before the operation.
  • Take your usual morning medication unless contraindicated by the anaesthetist (please bring your medication with you).
  • Remove and leave your jewellery and piercings at home.
  • Nail varnish, false nails and French manicure must be removed for hand and foot operations.

Your discharge

For safety reasons, make sure that you have someone available to accompany you home.

Check with our staff that you have the following documents:

  • Medical prescription and other certificates
  • Recommendations related to the procedure
  • Appointment for your next consultation

Before leaving the clinic, please inform the reception desk of your departure.

Our reception is open from Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 20:00, on Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00.

  • For patients in the general ward: Monday to Friday from 13:30 to 20:00, weekends and public holidays from 13:30-19:00.

Location

The Clinique Générale is located in the centre of the city of Fribourg and is accessible by :

Car

Equally distant from Zurich and Geneva (approx. 01h 30), the Clinique Générale is less than ten minutes from the A12 motorway exit «Fribourg Sud».
It is about 45 minutes from Lausanne and 20 minutes from Bern.

Parking

Public parking spaces with a maximum duration of 2 hours are available in the vicinity of the Clinique Générale. The car park of the Pérolles shopping centre is also available.

Train

Two connections per hour with the Intercity trains to Lausanne (45 min), Geneva (1 h 20), Bern (20 min) or Zurich (1 h 30).

The Clinique Générale is a five-minute walk from the SBB station.

Bus TPF

From Fribourg station: Lines 1, 3, 7, 8 and 9 / stop «Fries» or «Vogt»
