World Sight Day
Thursday 13th October 2022 is World Sight Day
World Sight Day, coordinated by theIAPB (International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness), raises awareness of eye health among individuals, families and communities.
1.1 billion people worldwide live with sight loss. 90% of these losses are preventable or treatable if detected early.
The main causes of vision loss are as follows:
- Uncorrected refractive errors (671 million people)
- Cataracts (100 million people)
- Glaucoma (8 million people)
- Age-related macular degeneration (8 million people)
- Diabetic retinopathy (4 million people)
