Diabetes: treatment, screening and prevention
Diabetes is a disease that can remain silent for a long time.
Dr PD Aude Ambresin, FMH specialist in ophthalmology and ophthalmosurgery, and Dr Mirela Verschueren, FMH specialist in endocrinology and diabetology, talk about it on LFM's 100% Santé programme.
Diabetic patients need to be aware of any changes to their vision and have regular check-ups with their ophthalmologist.
Swiss Visio is taking part in this prevention day by offering free screening eye tests for a week.
This day, set up by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation, is a response to the growing concern about the growing health threat posed by diabetes. Its symbol is a blue circle, the global emblem of diabetes awareness, which symbolises the unity of the world community.
One in 10 adults in the world now has diabetes, representing an estimated population of 537 million people.
Many thanks to diabètevaud, which is offering free eye and foot checks throughout the canton between 14 and 24 November.
