Exploring future career prospects outside the conventional models was the main objective of the national "Future of all kinds" day, which took place on Thursday 9 November 2023 in several Swiss Medical Network clinics.
A large number of students from French- and German-speaking Switzerland, as well as from Ticino, had the opportunity to accompany doctors and professionals in various departments, giving them an up-close look at careers in healthcare, catering and hospitality. Several of the Group's clinics took an active part, and expressed their satisfaction at encouraging these young people to explore their interests and talents when making their career choices.
At the Clinique de Genolier, eight children aged between 10 and 13 enthusiastically took part in workshops ranging from hand hygiene to the immersive experience of dressing like a surgeon. They had the opportunity to analyse an ultrasound scan with Dr. Kress-Boesch and blind-tasted dishes prepared by the chef, including a culinary surprise with courgette cake.
At the Clinique de Montchoisi, the children learned about the importance of hand hygiene, explored our operating theatres, visited the radiology department and carried out ophthalmological examinations in collaboration with the Swiss Visio Network.
The Clinique de Valère opened its doors to Year 8 students, giving them the opportunity to find out about careers in physiotherapy, radiology, the laboratory and the operating theatre. The day included discussions and practical workshops on topics such as the heart's response to stress, blood pressure measurement and bandaging techniques.
Clinique Générale Ste-Anne has certainly inspired new vocations among the 14 young people who have had the opportunity to explore various departments such as OSIs, nurses, cooks, technical service staff, physiotherapists, anaesthetists and so on.
At Clinique Valmont, five children enjoyed a dynamic day including a sports session with our physiotherapists and adapted physical activity instructors, biscuit-making with our pastry chef, an introduction to bandaging in care, and discovering MindMotion Go in occupational therapy.
At the Hôpital de la Providence, 13 children had a great day taking part in plaster, suture and first aid workshops!
At the Réseau de l'Arc, the children had great fun taking part in a number of workshops on taking blood, first aid and hand hygiene. They also had the chance to visit an ambulance and make pastries.
At Privatklinik Bethanien, pupils in classes 4 to 6 had the opportunity to enter a competition and win a day's immersive observation in various departments of the clinic.
Through practical exercises, the children immersed at Privatklinik Lindberg learnt about the health professions, physiotherapy, technical services, the operating theatre, the intensive care unit and the multi-skilled job of cook.
A number of students interested in going behind the scenes of a healthcare establishment had the opportunity to find out more about the medical field at the Privatklinik Belair, in particular by taking part in workshops on cooking, physiotherapy and technical services.
At Privatklinik Obach, 5 girls and 5 boys took part in a hands-on activity using forceps and contact lenses. They also took blood pressure readings, visited Professor Valderrabano's operating theatre and completed a course using wheelchairs, walkers and walking sticks. Not forgetting lunch with polenta pizza and a delicious dessert, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Three boys and eight girls helped clean rooms at the Privatklinik Pyramide, supported logistics, prepared essential medicines for care, and helped the kitchen team bake biscuits. They had exciting insights into knee and breast operations, and demonstrated their skills by removing a «chocolate beetle tumour».
Three girls and a boy from Years 5 and 7 demonstrated their motor skills in occupational therapy and took part in physical activities in physiotherapy at the Rosenklinik. They also had the opportunity to practise applying plasters with the help of the clinic's management.
At the Privatklinik Villa im Park, the children had the opportunity to watch a surgical operation and explore the day-to-day life of different healthcare professions.
At Clinica Sant'Anna and Clinica Ars Medica, two Year 7 students had the opportunity to discover the services traditionally associated with women, broadening their perspective for their future choices. The two boys donned nursing outfits, exploring the clinics' various departments, meeting male staff and taking part in medical activities.
