SONATA - a minimally invasive surgical method: Recently also at the Privatklinik Bethanien

Radiofrequency ablation is a surgical method that makes it possible to treat myomas with heat without incisions, painless and gentle treatment of myomas with heat. As of today, Dr Juliette Schmid-Lossberg is treating myoma patients at the Privatklinik Bethanien with this procedure.

Privatklinik Bethanien is pleased to announce that Dr Juliette Schmid-Lossberg has performed the first two procedures with the Sonata device at the clinic today. Dr Schmid-Lossberg is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics. She works as a doctor in the gynhealth practice and as an affiliated doctor in the Privatklinik Bethanien and the Klinik Pyramide am See. For many years she has been dealing with myomas in her myoma consultation and has successfully used the RF ablation Sonata so far in the Engadin and now also in the Privatklinik Bethanien.

What are myomas?
Myomas are one of the most common benign tumours of the uterus and every second woman over the age of 40 has one or more myomas. 50 percent of myomas do not cause any symptoms. If symptoms are present, they can be very varied. The patients suffer from extraordinarily strong menstrual pain and heavy bleeding - even bleeding disorders. But complaints such as bloating, bladder problems, pain in the abdomen or during sexual intercourse are also very common. An unfulfilled desire to have children is also a very common issue that myoma patients are confronted with.

SONATA - the minimally invasive surgical method
Radiofrequency ablation of myomas under transcervical ultrasound guidance (SONATA®System) has been available in Switzerland since 2017. Under anaesthesia, a probe is inserted into the uterine cavity so that the myomas can be localised and treated by heat. The treatment usually takes only a few minutes per myoma. The heat treatment shrinks the myomas in the following weeks and months. After three months, experience shows that 90 per cent of the bleeding problems have been reduced.

The Sonata method is a relatively simple way to treat several symptomatic myomas without an abdominal incision or injury to the uterus. Postoperative pain is rare. The method is also possible if you wish to have children.
