La Domenica - From the slopes to the operating theatre
Emulating the champions of alpine skiing, from Marco Odermatt to Lara Gut-Behrami or, for the sportsmen of yesteryear, from Bernhard Russi to... Zeno Colò, is a recurring practice of many a Sunday, skiing week or season-long skier. Without adequate preparation, and leaving aside the imponderables, the beautiful day spent on the snow in the sun, however, runs the risk of turning into an evening of artificial lights illuminating cries of pain and the emergency room bed. Dr Marco Marano, a doctor specialising in Orthopaedics and Traumatology and in Sports Medicine at the Ars Medica Clinic in Gravesano and at the Ars Medica Sports Centre in Manno, knows this well. We spoke to him about a particular situation in the Gravesano emergency department at the beginning of the ski season, with a 'significant peak' during the Christmas holidays.
