La Consulenza Rete Uno - Dr. med. Corrado Campisi
The lymphatic system is made up of groups of lymph nodes, located in different parts of the body, that act as filters, blocking harmful substances and providing an immune response to infections. When something goes wrong, the lymph accumulates in the tissues causing swellings called lymphoedemas. Lipedema, on the other hand, is characterised by the accumulation of abnormal amounts of subcutaneous fat in the legs and sometimes also in the arms. These are diseases of the lymphatic system, but how are they recognised, what symptoms do they give and how are they treated?
Dr. Corrado Campisi, specialist in lymphatic surgery and microsurgery at the Clinica Sant'Anna, where he coordinates a Centre specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of lymphatic pathologies, answers.
