La Domenica - ESSKA Recognition
In recent days the Clinica Ars Medica based in Gravesano has once again been recognised as a Teaching Centre by the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). It is the only one in Ticino, together with La Colline in Geneva and Bruderholz in Basel, the other two clinics in Switzerland recognised as super training centres. We ask Dr Matteo Denti, accredited to Ars Medica, a specialist in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system, from 2014 to 2016 president of ESSKA, of which he was also on the board for 18 years, first of all what the confirmation of this recognition means. 'In a nutshell, it means being revalued and recognised as a leading centre in Europe,' notes the specialist. 'It means that the facility and the more than 30 specialists who work here are considered suitable for teaching. Who can benefit from these teachings? "Already trained orthopaedic surgeons can come to our ESSKA-accredited centre to try to improve their surgery and super-specialise". The Clinica Ars Medica, which is also the foreign Teaching Centre of the ESSKA-affiliated Italian company SIAGASCOT, medical partner of HC Lugano and FC Lugano, therefore continues its path of excellence, both at the level of supertraining and in the prevention, care and surgical treatment of injuries. Injuries that are not lacking in the canton. 'We detect many injuries in people with an average age of 40-50 years who in a large percentage still play sports,' comments the traumatologist. And if once upon a time patients with certain ligament injuries we might have decided not to operate on them, today they are treated surgically both at their request and because of the excellent results that surgery with modern technology can achieve'.
