Radiotherapy Today: An Interview with Dr. Oscar Matzinger
Radiotherapy, an essential method in cancer treatment, has made considerable progress in recent years. In an interview given to the journal Coopération, Dr Oscar Matzinger, medical director of radiation oncology at the Genolier Clinic and Générale-Beaulieu Clinic, shared his perspectives on the advances and applications of this technology.
According to Dr Matzinger, innovations such as the CyberKnife or the Tomotherapy Radixact, a machine with a precision of 0.03 mm, allow for extremely precise targeting of tumors, thus reducing side effects and improving patient comfort. He notes that 40% of radiotherapy treatments are used for palliative purposes to relieve pain.
In addition to treating solid cancers such as those of the prostate, lung, and breast, radiotherapy can also be used to manage chronic inflammatory diseases, like osteoarthritis.
