According to the World Health Organization (WHO), osteoporosis is one of the major health problems, with an ever-increasing role due to the phenomenon of longer life expectancy in the population.
"This is correct, because it is one of the most common causes of vertebral fractures, but it is not the only one," began Dr. med. Maurizio Pintucci, a specialist in neurosurgery at the Centro Colonna Vertebrale - Ars Medica in Manno, who explains how this type of fracture can be attributable to the force of the trauma ("when it exceeds the resistance of the bone"), but also to a reduced resistance of the bone, as in some metabolic diseases (osteopenia and, in the most severe variant, osteoporosis) or degenerative, inflammatory, infectious, neoplastic processes. Pain is the most frequent symptom.
