World sight day

The 2024 edition draws attention to the importance of eye care for young people.

The campaign targets children to teach them the importance of taking care of their eye health, but also to free them from the social stigma associated with wearing glasses and other corrective treatments.

Every child in the world must be able to benefit from eye health that is accessible, available and affordable.
Young people need to make their vision a priority, by having all the information they need to protect their eyes and, above all, by taking the necessary steps to look after their eyesight, whether that means reducing the amount of time they spend in front of a screen, making it a priority tobe outdoors or asking for help if they are bothered.

Your child may not recognise or be able to tell you that they have a problem with their eyes. But there will be signs. Be particularly vigilant if you have a family history of eye problems or if your child was born prematurely.

Consult a paediatrician, optometrist or ophthalmologist if you notice any of the following signs:

Difficulty reading and/or avoiding local activities

If he tilts his head, covers one eye or squints when looking at objects (near or far)

If he blinks frequently or rubs his eyes

When he has to use his eyes, he quickly loses interest

Difficulty distinguishing between shades of the same colour or similar colours. For example, red and green, or blue and yellow.

Pupils that drift or are misaligned

Our Swiss Visio Chavannes centre is offering a free screening day for children aged 4 to 18 on 15 October.
