Screenings and prevention to mark World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day is the world's biggest diabetes awareness campaign. It is celebrated every year on 14th November.

Diabetes is characterised by chronic hyperglycaemia, i.e. an excess of sugar in the blood, resulting in excessively high glucose levels.

This chronic disease affects many organs, including the eyes. Regular monitoring is important, as most of the effects of diabetes on the eye do not cause symptoms until they are very advanced. Diabetic patients are two to five times more likely to develop eye disease.

That's why our centres are offering a week of eye screenings for diabetic patients.

Call +41 58 274 23 05 to make an appointment at one of our participating centres:

  • Swiss Visio Montchoisi
  • Swiss Visio Chavannes
  • Swiss Visio Eaux-Vives
  • Swiss Visio Sierre
  • Swiss Visio Moutier
  • Swiss Visio Saint-Imier
  • Swiss Visio Palézieux

Our partner DiabèteVaud is also offering screening throughout November for people living with diabetes, without appointment, from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm:

  • Mondays 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th November 2024
  • Tuesdays 5th, 12, 19th and 26th November 2024
  • Thursdays 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th November 2024

Diabetes is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in the world, affecting around 537 million adults aged between 20 and 79 in 2021, representing 10.5% of the world's population in this age group. This figure could rise to 783 million by 2045.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form, accounting for more than 90% of all cases of diabetes. This form is largely linked to so-called environmental factors: poor diet, lack of physical activity, obesity, etc.

Almost 50% of cases of diabetes go undiagnosed, and prevention remains vital.
