Bee Sustainable: the year in review and bees in winter
The year 2024 is drawing to a close, and our Bee Sustainable project can look back on many successful milestones. But while the warm season is over and the flowering areas are now at rest, the bees are preparing for their winter rest.
In winter, the bees retreat to their hive, where they huddle together to form a winter cluster. In this special formation, the bees manage to generate heat by continuously beating their wings and survive the cold months together. In doing so, they consume the honey harvested in summer, which they use as a source of energy. In this way, they survive the winter without going into «hibernation», as many might think.
Bee Sustainable made considerable progress in 2024:
- Beehives have been installed in all hospitals.
- Budding beekeepers have been trained.
- We were able to harvest 293 kg of honey.
- We have been able to raise awareness among our staff of the importance of bees.
We look forward to continuing to promote a buzz around biodiversity next year.
