The renowned cardiologist Prof Dr med Dr rer. nat. Christian Templin has provided exciting insights into broken heart syndrome in the recently published Stern interview. The expert treats patients in his practice Swiss CardioVascularClinic at Privatklinik Bethanien.

Broken heart syndrome mainly affects women over the age of 60 and is triggered by intense emotional reactions such as deep sadness or overwhelming happiness. This can actually lead to serious damage to the heart muscle. The symptoms of broken heart syndrome are very similar to those of a heart attack and include chest pain and shortness of breath.
