Dr Claudio Soravia is an abdominal and colorectal surgeon with significant experience in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
His main surgical areas of interest are colorectal surgery (colon and rectal cancer, surgery for diverticulitis and chronic inflammatory bowel disease), proctology and surgery of the pelvic floor. With respect to general surgery, he treats hernias, gallstones, gastrointestinal reflux and stomach cancer.
Born in Valais, Switzerland, Claudio Soravia started his career as a resident at the surgery department of the Ospedale San Giovanni Bellinzona between 1986 and 1987.
During the two subsequent years, he moved to Bern to work in the Paediatric surgery clinic at the Inselspital and then at the Surgery clinic in Spital Tiefenau. He was awarded the title of doctor in medicine from the Faculty of Bern in 1988.
Since then, he has worked a significant number of roles in a variety of establishments in Geneva, starting as a resident at the Surgery department in the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève. He spent three years there before taking on a position as Chief resident at the Hôpital Broye in Payerne. He made his way back to Geneva in 1992, spending 6 months at the Digestive surgery department, then a year at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels in order to refine his expertise in the digestive system, before once again returning to Geneva in October 1993.
Back at the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, he worked until 1995 as Assistant chief resident in the thoracic surgery, digestive surgery and paediatric surgery departments. In the meantime, he earned an FMH certification in surgery. Ever in search of new knowledge, Dr Soravia left for a further three years, this time making his way to Toronto, at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where he worked as a Research and clinical Fellow in the colorectal surgery division until 1998. He made the most of his stay by also earning a Master of science degree in 1997. He left Canada for a quick stop at St Mark’s Hospital in London in 1998, working as a Clinical assistant in the Colorectal unit. A further return to Geneva and the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève followed in October 1998, with Dr. Soravia working as Chief research resident from 1998-2000, Chief resident from 2000-2001 and finally Lead chief resident at the visceral surgery clinic from 2001-2002.
In 2002, Dr Soravia joined the Clinique Générale-Beaulieu as an abdominal and colorectal surgeon.
