«In five years’ time we will have made a revolution in Switzerland, a revolution in healthcare».
This is the promise made by Antoine Hubert, patron of the Swiss Medical Network Group, the Swiss network of private hospitals and clinics that also has three facilities in Ticino (Ars Medica in Gravesano, Clinica Ars Medica in Sorengo and the Blenio Medical Centre). While the new, umpteenth, dramatic sting of health insurance premiums is arriving - very painful in Ticino (+10.5%, i.e. 45 francs more for a monthly premium of 472 francs) -, the health manager is pointing to a new solution: the integrated care network that puts the service providers (those who provide care), the insurance company (Visana) and the canton (Bern, for now) under the same roof. They work together on common goals: reducing duplication, unnecessary interventions and drugs, enhancing home care, containing costs and lowering premiums. In a system that has few incentives to reduce the volume of services, the focus is on collaboration to keep costs down. The new model, which has been tested for a year in the Bernese Jura, will arrive in Ticino from 2025. What it is and how it works, we asked Antoine Hubert, who we met in Genolier, where a platform for medical innovation has just been inaugurated.
