The multi- and interdisciplinary rehabilitation programme for Long-Covid addresses individual, structural and functional deficits. Our wide-ranging expertise supports our patients in regaining their former performance and quality of life.
Between 10 and 35% of people suffering from Covid-19 have long-term symptoms. In around 5% of people affected by a mild course of the disease, symptoms last longer than 6 weeks. 80% of people who had a severe course of the disease with a stay in an intensive care unit still complain of persistent symptoms after 3 months.
If symptoms persist for more than 3 months after a coronavirus infection, this is called Long-Covid.
It is unclear why recovery is delayed in some infected people. There are three main possibilities:
The actual Covid infection is often rather harmless. Delayed recovery is already known from other infectious diseases. It is known from these conditions that inactivity exacerbates the problem and that excessive stress overtaxes the body and its energy reserves.
The decision on inpatient rehabilitation is made in consultation with the treating GP, the specialist and the person affected. In principle, inpatient rehabilitation is indicated if there are persistent restrictions in the central areas of life (own family, social life, occupation and work) and/or if there is no improvement with outpatient treatment.

The Luzerner Höhenklinik Montana has developed a rehabilitation programme for Long Covid sufferers that addresses individual, structural and functional deficits. The programme was developed according to the guidelines for pneumological, cardiological, psychosomatic, internal and musculoskeletal rehabilitation and includes the following measures, depending on the deficits:
The rehabilitation programme is multi- and interdisciplinary and lasts between 3 and 6 weeks, depending on the degree of severity.
The aim of inpatient rehabilitation is to regain the physical capacity, ability to work and quality of life prior to the illness. According to current knowledge, the long-term prognosis is good. The majority of Long Covid sufferers treated by us experienced a considerable improvement after just 3 weeks of rehabilitation.
