Patient undergoing therapy in medical oncology rehabilitation

Internal oncological rehabilitation

Internal oncological rehabilitation includes effective forms of therapy following lengthy treatment or serious surgical procedures. The focus is on promoting your independence and maintaining your quality of life.

What is internal oncological rehabilitation?

Internal oncological rehabilitation is a health and autonomy-orientated process. It comprises all coordinated measures of a medical, educational and social nature that enable the patient to overcome restrictions caused by illness or therapy. The aim is to restore optimal physiological, psychological and social functionality. And to such an extent that they can organise their lives under their own steam with the greatest possible autonomy and resume their place in society. Depending on the patient's needs, the following specialisms are consulted:

  • Malnutrition and malnutrition (including parenteral and enteral nutrition therapy)
  • Swallowing disorders due to disease treatment or as a complication of disease (especially tumours)
  • Therapy of lymphoedema
  • Wound treatment
  • Stoma treatment
  • Psycho-oncological care, coping with illness

What are the benefits of internal oncological rehabilitation?

Patients who require internal oncological rehabilitation suffer from several diseases or several serious health problems at the same time. This requires multidisciplinary care during the rehabilitation stay. The primary task of oncological rehabilitation is to help people return to their private, social and professional lives. The quality of life should improve significantly through holistic rehabilitation measures. For people who are considered cured, this means a sustainable recovery, while for other patients it means dealing with chronic cancer as confidently and with as little discomfort as possible. Both specialities (internal medicine and oncology) address the following problems in particular:

  • Malnutrition and malnutrition (including artificial nutrition directly in the veins and oral nutritional support)
  • Swallowing disorders due to disease treatment or as a complication of disease (especially tumours)
  • Therapy of lymphoedema
  • Wound treatment
  • Stoma treatment (artificial bowel outlet)
  • Psycho-oncological care, coping with illness
