From 1991 to 1998 he worked as an assistant physician at the anaesthesiology service of the Ospedale Regionale Lugano (Dr. med. A. Guidini), at the surgery department of the Ospedale Beata Vergine in Mendrisio (Dr. med. S. Arma), as an emergency doctor at the 'Croce Verde' in Mendrisio, as an assistant in the anaesthesiology service at the Biel Regional Hospital (Dr. med. M. Bührer), and again as an assistant at the 'Institut für Anästhesiologie und Intensivbehandlung' at the University Hospital of Bern (Prof. D. Thomson).
In 1998 he was appointed Head of Clinic in the Department of Anaesthesiology at the Regional Hospital of Lugano (Prof. E. Alon).
In 2002, he was appointed Head of Service and Coordinator of Operating Theatres. In the same year, he spent six months as Chief of Anaesthesiology ad interim, again at Lugano Regional Hospital, before being appointed Deputy Chief of the Anaesthesiology Department at Lugano Regional Hospital in 2006, an activity he held until his appointment as Head of Anaesthesiology at the Ars Medica Clinic on 1 January 2011.

Graduated in medicine and surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Pavia in 1991. In 1998, he successfully passed the specialty examination in Anaesthesia and Resuscitation of the Swiss Anaesthesia and Resuscitation Society.
In 2001 he obtained the FMH certificate in emergency medicine. In 2002 he passed the Swiss state examination and was awarded the Federal Medical Diploma and the FMH title in Anaesthesiology.
In 2007, he obtained a Master's degree in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and the CNR Institute of Clinical Physiology in Pisa; he graduated with top marks and honours with the presentation of the research paper "Variations in the dynamics of clot formation in sports diving".
In the same year, he obtained the title of Diving Medicine Physician ECHM/EDTC (European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine/European Diving Technology Committee).
