Back to work after summer break: are your eyes ready too?

At the start of the new school year, it's crucial to pay particular attention to your visual health.

Our eyes are put to a severe test in our daily activities with the almost ubiquitous use of screens, for students and working people alike. The increase in time spent in front of screens can lead to various eye problems if certain precautions are not taken.

Here's some useful advice on looking after your eyes from ophthalmology specialist Dr Victoire Hurand.

Adapting your posture

The ideal distance between your eyes and the screen is around 50-70 cm.

The ‘20-20-20’ rule

Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away (about 6 metres)

Anti-blue light glasses

Anti-blue light glasses are designed to reduce the exposure of our eyes to the blue light emitted by screens.

Beware of dry eyes

Dry eye is a common problem with prolonged exposure to screens, and when we stare at a screen we blink about 5 times less.
