Duchess Di Cassano originally chose the Genolier site to turn into a wellness and weight loss centre. As the project failed to meet with the expected success, Duchess Di Cassano called on Professor Charles Hahn, a leading specialist in heart surgery, to transform the site into a cardiology centre. Clinique de Genolier quickly gained a name in Europe in the field of cardiovascular surgery, with up to 12 cardiac surgical procedures performed there every day. As the majority of patients and their companions came from various European countries, the construction of an additional building soon proved necessary – this served as half a hotel for the patients’ companions and half a living space for the medical staff.
Clinique de Genolier was acquired by a Swiss group made up of four investors. Their primary objective was to open the facility to local clients and diversify the range of medical and surgical activities on offer. Thanks to the development of many sectors, the clinic established an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally.
A Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Centre (CRG) was built, followed by a maternity ward in 1990. Clinique de Genolier developed various sectors of expertise, including oncology, radio-oncology, radiology, all types of adult surgery and physiotherapy. Its premises were extended with the construction and inauguration of the south wing.
During this time the clinic was home to the Castañeda Institute, a team of surgeons specialising in paediatric cardiac surgery under the aegis of Professor Aldo Castañeda, a world leader in the field. When he retired, his associate Dr Norwood decided to return to the United States.
A further service became available with the establishment of a dental clinic by a maxillofacial surgeon. Today the Genolier Dental Clinic employs more than 10 members of staff.
A Centre for the Prevention of Ageing was created by Professor Jacques Proust. This coincided with Clinique de Genolier seizing the opportunity to develop its expertise in all aspects of plastic and cosmetic surgery as well as cosmetic dermatology.
The transition to the 21st century witnessed major medical and economic challenges (Medical tariff system (TarMed) – Revision of basic health insurance (LAMal) – Participation of the cantons at the grassroots level in semi-private and private). For its part, Clinique de Genolier decided to focus on its cutting-edge activities and closed its maternity unit.
Major renovation work was underway at the clinic. The operating theatre, recovery room and continuous care facilities were completely refurbished, as were the patient reception areas.
Clinique de Genolier invested in the latest technological innovations and acquired the world’s first Philips digital PET-CT. A state-of-the-art robot, the Da Vinci, used to perform minimally invasive surgery, joined the clinic’s facilities the following year.
To complete its range of services, Clinique de Genolier opened an Emergency Centre. Clinique de Genolier has continued to constantly evolve and seize the many opportunities open to it in order to offer its patients the best possible care.
We have been working hard to ensure patient safety for years. Our objectives are ambitious and a dedicated team is in place to ensure that they are achieved.
We are certified by state institutions in the fields of radio-oncology and nuclear medicine.
