FMH-certified obstetrician-gynaecologist
After earning a degree from the Faculty of medicine in Geneva, Dr Eric Mégevand obtained his doctorate in 1987. After a three year course in general, digestive and urological surgery, he specialised in gynaecology and obstetrics (FMH certification in 1990). In South Africa, at the Groote Schuur University Hospital in Cape Town, he turned his focus to surgical oncology and pelvis surgery. A course at the Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York allowed him to gain a qualification in pelvic ultrasound imaging. His stay in New York continued with a fellowship at Sloan Kettering Hospital.
Upon his return to Geneva, he took the role of Lead chief resident at the Maternity clinic in Geneva, before supervising abdominal and pelvic surgery carried out at the Gynaecology department of the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève as acting Head of department. In 1999 he took a role in a private practice, while still working as an Attending physician in gynaecological surgery at the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, as well as a teaching post at the Faculty of medicine in Geneva.
From 2004 to 2009, he was the chairman of the board at Dianuro in Geneva, a medical centre that focuses on conditions of the pelvic floor, including prolapses and incontinence. He also carries out colposcopy consultations at Dianuro for conditions affecting the cervix.
Alongside these roles, he is involved in development and teaching of surgery, in particular keyhole surgery, cancer surgery, and uro-gynaecological surgery in a number of developing counties, including India, Pakistan, Libya, Mongolia and the Philippines. He also works as a consultant with the WHO. As a board member of the Vision for All foundation, he is involved in international activity.
Since being accredited in 1999 at the Clinique Générale Beaulieu, he has assisted in the development of new surgical techniques in gynaecology, in particular with respect to keyhole surgery and robotic surgery.
